Surfacing is used to restore the integrity of worn parts or to increase their operational characteristics. When repairing worn parts, metal is deposited which is the same in chemical composition with the metal of the part. And to give some additional properties (for example, wear resistance, heat resistance, corrosion resistance), metal surfacing with special characteristics is used.

Surfacing is the deposition of metal on the surface of a part; for this, a wire for surfacing is used.

Surfacing can be carried out in various ways of arc welding:

Open arc
In shielding gas environment MIG/MAG
Under a layer of flux
Thermal spraying
Usually, wire with a diameter of 1.6-2.2 mm is used for surfacing in protective gases, and a wire with a diameter of 3.0-5.0 mm is used for surfacing under flux. Such a wire is of continuous cross section and flux-cored. This section presents a solid wire for surfacing, used for mechanized types of surfacing in the environment of shielding gases and submerged arc.
